It’s main function is to exhaust gases to the vent and helps maintain proper atmospheric pressure in the waste system also called a ‘vent stack' or plumbing air vent. It is used to regulate the air pressure in plumbing system, which removes gases from drain pipes to remove water and waste from your home. Because plumbing requires air to work it’s best. Through plumbing vents, fresh air comes into the plumbing system to help water flow smoothly in the drain pipes.

Slow draining and gurgling in your drain pipes could be a sign of a clogged roof vent. Mostly homes do not have main drain clean out, so the best option to get an access a clogged main drain through the roof vent. Roof vents don’t have gas traps that introduce tight turns, so working from your roof might give you easier, unobstructed access to the main drain. It depends on the design of your roof and location of the vent, setup and clean-up can also be easier than using an indoor opening. Here are describing some methods to clear your clogged drains.

Hand Held Drum Auger

If you are going to clean clogged drains by yourself, read the instructions carefully mentioned on the it. Use it, if you are much capable and after adopting all precautionary measures. Now start by feeding the auger at a short distance into the vent to check how much it obstructed, and also to check either you might be able to pull it out or not. When you have inserted the drum auger by it’s full length, pull out the auger cable back into the drum. After several attempts you will be able to remove most of the blockage. Now check if the water flows freely down through the main drain.

Needle Nose Drain Cleaner

If the main drain is clogged, you should flush out the waste with a sewer jetter. A needle nose drain cleaner is a jetter with a braided steel jacket and a special compact nozzle tip that allows it to pass through the pipe elbows. You helper should be near the pressure washer, feed up the sewer jetter hose and guide the hose to avoid snagging it on gutters and flashing. Put the sewer jetter to the main drain as you squeeze the trigger. For thorough cleaning, pull back the nosel about halfway after every few feet and then continue moving forward.
